I'm the mother of three breastfed children and the grandmother of ten breastfed grandchildren. Two of my grandchildren are still breastfeeding today, one at a year old and one at three. When I'm not coaching or creating, you'll usually find me with the grandchildren who live just down the road on a farm.
I'm also a former registered nurse and, for twenty years, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Across twenty-eight years and eight clinical settings, I've worked with thousands of mothers in labor and delivery, postpartum care, high-risk pregnancy, fertility care, infant massage, and private practice. I founded The New Born Baby, where I worked directly with mothers and their newborns.
I came to this work through my own kitchen counter, mixing bottles of formula for my first baby and crying, wondering how it had gone so wrong when I'd done everything I was told. Then I met mother after mother in the same place.
Intelligent, devoted women trying to learn breastfeeding only after a problem had already begun. They were tired, their babies were unsettled, and advice was coming from every direction. What they needed wasn't another disconnected tip. They needed to understand what they were seeing.
